The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and started playing poker before reaching his teens.

The young gambler began playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his initial gin tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the small poker maestro had become a pro and stopped going to school.

In 1954 Stu entered the record books by succeeding 10 grand in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.

The fast speaking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic superstars like Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a true talent for playing poker except regardless of his achievements in Texas hold em poker, he preferred playing gin.

Stu once said that there may some day be a improved No Limit Texas holdem gambler than him but he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a improved gin gambler.

In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the best Texas hold em Poker gamblers in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Extraordinarily it was the first time he had entered the tournament.
